A medium term objective of the Euratom Safeguards Directorate is to implement up to 100 % verification of the output of all major LEU fuel fabrication plants by unattended measurement. The present paper describes elements of the background of this intention as well as the challenges it involves. It reports on a project recently started to study, design, realise, test and implement an integrated system of automated NDA and identification of unirradiated LWR uranium assemblies at the exit of the fabrication plant. Key parts of the system are discussed, highlighting the technical features as well as the benefits expected from it.
