Abstract

An accurately calibrated mobile unit was used to validate 45 air quality monitoring stations in Lombardy over a 40 hour period. 63 % of the data on NO and NO(2) but only 23 % of the data on ozone were classed as acceptable (within 10 % of the reference value). Particulates were markedly underestimated. Instrumentation, sampling and calibration are therefore in need of accurate checking to eliminate sources of error.
