Optimal control of above-ground pipelines under dynamic excitation
This research relates to the use of computer-controlled devices to control the dynamic response of above-ground pipelines, loosely resting on steel saddles, when subjected to strong ground shaking. By applying suitable space and time discretisation schemes, the state relation is formulated as a quadratic optimisation problem. A optimisation algorithm is proposed which transforms the initial quadratic problem into a sequence of linear problems. A numeric example illustrates the proposed method.
