Land surface temperature retrieval from NOAA AVHRR data
The paper reviews the state of the art of land surface temperature (LST) retrieval from NOAA AVHRR data. It includes a discussion of the physical principles underlying the split-window technique as well as a discussion of various algorithms proposed over the last decade. Problems related to the retrieval of LSTs from AVHRR data are discussed in detail and a critical evaluation of the methodology is given. Finally, the paper points to possible applications and to expected improvements in the future.
