Abstract

The project was designed to test the working of a new inflatable weir system. Originally the inflatable weir was to be built into a dam of 10 m width and 1.0 m overflow level. Due to constructional difficulties this project had to be changed. The components of the new system now operate in an inflatable weir of 16 m width and 1.40 m overflow level. This weir has been built in connection with the construction of a new hydro power plant with an output of 240 kW. The innovative part of the system, including the inflatable weir, worked according to expectations. During the first two years, however, the regulating system was modified several times. This system allows for an increase of the inflatable weir height of approximately 15 % compared to the conventional solution. At the same time the regulating accuracy increased which was demonstrated during the later assessment phase.
