Abstract

This paper presents the soft X-ray pinhole camera system for the ASDEX Upgrade medium-size tokamak. Details of the optical system and the detectors in use are given. Special emphasis is put on the specific data acquisition with high performance parallel computing. Data analysis is performed by rotational tomographic reconstruction in natural coordinates and by different transformation techniques (FFT, wavelet, singular value decomposition). First results with the system are presented for recent H-mode discharges. They are characterised by frequent and weak type-III ELMs in the outer plasma zones and a rotating helical (1,1) MHD structure in the core plasma.
