  • On the scope of qualitative structural input-output analysis in the conceptualising of a technology based development strategy : The example of the Seville technology park

The present research note reports the results of an exploratory study on the scope of input-output tables (IOTs) for regional futures studies. The IOT and sectorial employment data for Seville of the early 1980s are used to formulate a technology strategy for the technology park in Seville. The general characteristics of the economy are described and the main intersectorial links identified. The outcome is combined with some basic information on technology futures to suggest a technological orientation for the region's growth strategy. The general lines of an approach integrating input-output analysis with technology futures in an endogenous development framework are thereby developed. The information is represented in a non-formalised qualitative way to integrate the economic data with the technology futures in a matrix structure rendering a future formalisation possible.
