Abstract

This work reports the research carried out for the ITER task S71TD05, where tritium inventory tracking approaches are investigated. Potential tritium tracking strategies are considered and conventional safeguard techniques described. Information obtained by other tritium facilities, such as JET and TFTR is discussed. The general feature for ITER components is presented, the different parts of the machine are described and their proposed inventory given. Methods and instrumentation of tracking such as tritium quantification techniques and concentration measurements, as well as measurements and estimations for tritium held, are discussed. A preliminary evaluation of uncertainties for a selected operational scenario is given. R&D tasks to facilitate and support tracking approaches are identified.
