Abstract

This report summarises the results obtained from the first BEMA measuring campaign at Castelpurziano, Italy, in May 1994. Two major test ecosystems were selected for continuous measurements during the campaign: a 30 year old plantation of domestic pine and holm oak with representative understorey shrub vegetation, and a semirural Mediterranean greenland for research on low vegetation species. The objectives of the campaign are to understand the amount and fate of VOC emission from vegetation and their concentrations in the Mediterranean area in relation to the concentrations of anthropogenic compounds, and to assess their role in tropospheric ozone.
