Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

This handbook gives a detailed presentation of concepts and applications in the computer-aided management of households and commercial buildings, with emphasis on housing for multiple occupation and on service-sector projects such as offices, stores and hospitals. It contains a glossary of terminology used by the various collaborators in the field and a methodological analysis of their individual roles in ensuring the success of a project. The handbook also provides an overview of systems now on offer and gives concrete examples drawing on wide practical experience. The technologies of intelligent buildings are presented in terms of needs and expectations, global cost, supply, utilisation, training and operating income. From evaluation of results it was possible to identify a number of typical specifications. It is concluded that the clear benefits to society offered by these technologies are ample justification for government involvement.
