A decision-support system for solid waste management
This paper discusses the development and use of a decision support system for managing disposal systems. A crucial problem in the management of municipal waste is that of locating the plants and choosing the form of treatment and disposal best suited for a given situation. This work documents the implementation of a decision support system for the rational management of municipal solid waste on a regional scale in Lombardy. In particular, it considers the development of a tool for planning the siting of waste disposal plants, keeping overall costs down, and encouraging the recycling and recovery of resources from waste.
