The application of certified standards for the measurement of isotopic abundance ratios of a plutonium sample (x)Pu/Pu (x = 238 - 242) is subject to several constraints. These led to the development of analytical methods not requiring any calibration; they only use physical constants and algorithms to extract the maximum information from the spectrum of the unknown sample. One of these methods is the Multiple Group Analysis (MGA) code for the analysis of plutonium or mixed oxide (MOX) samples. The aim of this paper is to outline the important steps of the procedure and to present a simple application of MGA to a number of reference samples.
