An analysis of non-sinusoidal holographically recorded volume rejection gratings shows that non-linear coupled wave equations which cannot be solved numerically, can be solved directly. Using this method of analysis, quantitative comparisons with experimental results for reflection gratings recorded in DCG (Dichromated Gelatin) are presented. Other difficulties arising from this method due to the qualitative nature of the theory are also discussed.
