Application of remote sensing to alpine vegetation studies (Valmalenco - Italy) : Land cover classifications oriented to hydrological modelling
This paper studies the application of remote sensing to run-off modelling in alpine vegetation studies. The study area, Valmalenco, is subjected to severe problems of hydro-geological instability, exacerbated by the heavy annual rainfall of the region. The classifications analysed are based on two different approaches: statistical methods which enhance vegetation types, and spectral mixture modelling which enhances vegetation density.
