Analysis of hygroscopic aerosol behaviour in AHMED experiments
This selection of slide images illustrates the JRC's contribution to the analysis of the AHMED tests using the CONTAIN code. Five AHMED experiments investigating the behaviour of hygroscopic aerosol in a steam environment were analysed. The first slide presents the dry aerosol mass concentrations for the five tests. In the high relative humidity cases, the NaOH particles, being highly hygroscopic, grow to large sizes. The second slide summarises the wet aerosol mass concentrations and shows that for high relative humidity, the total concentration increases quickly in the first 10 minutes. Slides 3 and 4 show the aerodynamic mass median diameter and geometric standard deviation behaviour respectively.
