Abstract

In this work the thermal stability of an electrically conductive Si(3)N(4)-30 vol% TiN ceramic matrix composite in a 1 vol% SO(2)-air mixture was evaluated in the temperature range 800-1400 C and compared to the behaviour of the matrix Si(3)N(4). The results show that the presence of TiN increases the rate of oxidation and a deep zone of Ti depletion in the ceramic is formed.
