The first PHEBUS fission product experiment FPT0 : General aspects of the experimental sequence : Results concerning the fuel bundle degradation and FP releaseFunded under: EAEC-FUSION 12C
The aim of the PHEBUS fission products programme is to study the behaviour products released in the reactor circuit during a severe accident. This paper concerns the bundle aspect and the preliminary results of the core material releases. The analysis of the thermal results, the gamma-scanning, the radiography and the numerous tomographies performed in PHEBUS lead to the following bundle degradation sequence: (i) rupture of the zircaloy at around 1000 K; (ii) rupture of the AgInCd control between 1400 and 1500 K; (iii) the escalation of the stream-zircaloy reaction; (iv) large bundle degradation; (v) a final event corresponding to a down motion of this molten pool.
