Abstract

The workshop discussed at a fairly abstract level the problems connected with the management of natural and man-made emergencies. The conclusions confirmed that similar risk management systems apply for natural hazards as for technological ones, even if the control techniques may be hazard-specific. Items discussed include: (i) predictive uncertainties versus emergency management; (ii) human and social behaviour in emergencies; (iii) risk communication and social impact; (iv) learning from experience; (v) trends and priorities for further actions.
