The aim of the project was to build and to test a robotic system to dismantle in a totally remote manner a reprocessing plant built according to the contact cell philosophy. The system consists of a servomanipulator installed inside a containment box. The box is positioned over the process cell and communicates with it through a hole provided with a double lid system, to assure the containment of contamination when the box is removed. A hoist and the slave of a two-arm bilateral servomanipulator are installed at the bottom of a telescopic column inside the box; the hoist allows the transfer of dismantled equipment from the cell into the box. Cell decontamination was carried out after dismantling the equipment. The test gave good results, but further studies are necessary.
