The detection of changing field limits in agricultureFunded under: JRC-REMSENS 4C
The setting-up of an integrated system as a management and verification tool for the new CAP requires an evaluation of the needs for updating cartographic references used for claiming subsidies. Remote sensing is used in the European Community as a system for mapping certain agricultural practices. Data from Action 4 (MARS project) were found useful for meeting these needs. Topologic features and spatial analysis capabilities from GIS (ARC-INFO) were used. A statistical approach compared evolution of a number of plots and their mean size over the last 4 years. A cartographic analysis method based on overlaid rasters was used to overcome the inaccuracy of digitised photo-interpreted data from satellite images. The cartographic comparison was automated in order to process a large volume of data.
