  • Use of satellite remote sensing for an operational procedure to control permanent fallow land of the EEC-temporary set-aside arable land programme

To reduce agricultural over production and the associated costs, the EU introduced certain agropolitical regulations. One of these is the temporary set-aside arable land programme. This supports the reduction of arable land for five years in an attempt to reduce excessive production. This study examines by means of remote sensing, the justification of funding for the programme. Simultaneous mapping of the entire area of interest is performed, and a geographic database is established to help manage the different spatial and descriptive data necessary for long-term monitoring of the set-aside parcels.
