Abstract

Throughout 1994 IPTS largely worked along the lines of its pre-Fourth Framework Programme mandate. The last quarter of 1994 was nevertheless coloured by the smooth management of the transition/relocation of IPTS from Ispra to Seville, and the preliminary redefinition of the Institute's mission profile, following the stipulations of the Fourth Framework Programme. In the field of energy, work on photovoltaics and CO(2) separation, storage and sequestration continued and a new project on the prospects of clean coal technologies was launched. Similarly in the field of environment, work progressed on environmental evaluation techniques, global climate change, business and the environment, and best available technologies (BATs), accompanied by the launching of projects on plastics recycling, background work on sustainable development definition, and green indicators. Finally, the foundation for ESTO was laid through progress in setting up the technology watch function of the Institute, and the R&D projects information system (Qui Quod).
