Abstract

The Reactor Safety programme of the JRC is focused on the study of phenomena occurring during accidents, in particular severe accidents in light water reactors (LWR). The programme is subdivided into the following main activities: (i) source term: participation in the international Phebus-FP programme, development of the European source term code package ESTER, and investigation of aerosol deposition and resuspension phenomena in project STORM; (ii) FARO: an experimental project on the interaction of molten corium with coolant and reactor structures, performed in co-operation with European and US organisations; (iii) thermohydraulics: conclusion of LOBI test analysis documentation and support activities to the previous subjects.
