Abstract

This paper describes an improved electro-deposition method for 238Pu, 239Pu, 242Pu, 244Pu and 234U. An organic medium was developed to prepare plutonium and uranium layers. The main refinement was in the cell design using a knife edge compression of a PTFE ring to provide the liquid seal. A thin aluminium between the PTFE and the substrate was used to reduce the border effect. The cell material was polyacetyl (Delrin) and a platinum grid anode.
