Abstract

In this paper an approach to assimilate remote sensed sea surface temperatures (SST) is presented. First choice of models and methodologies is illustrated. The circulation model is described, emphasising those features which are considered necessary for an efficient assimilation of SST. The chosen assimilation technique and its implementation is also illustrated. Finally the results of a number of numerical experiments are presented, aimed at demonstrating the characteristics of the approach.
