Abstract

The birth of the EPI database as part of the EU Drug Regulatory Information System brought rationalisation in the domain of medicinal products' description. In the new design, the ECPHIN project (renamed into EudraMat) deals with pure marketing problems and enlarges the field of operations to competition and public budget in the pharmaceutical sector, while the scientific description of the medicinal products remains the care of EPI. The reorganisation reflects the situation existing in several member states. The talk presents the structure of the EPI data-base and its role in the information system.
