Interactive planning for integrated supervision and control in complex plant
The aim of this work is to design an informatic tool prototype to provide on-line support for an operator in his operation of a complex process. The objective for the system is to prevent dangerous situations or inadequate operation of the process, to provide feedback to the operator on the state of the process, to provide guidance in the planning of tasks, and to support the operator in his selection of possible tasks. An operational envelope defines a set of boundaries which, when crossed, causes the supporting system to either alert the operator or to take some action. Another aspect that characterises the support system is that it keeps track of plausible intentions behind the operators' actions and take advantage of the behaviour of the operator whenever useful. This is done by mapping the observed behaviour of the operator onto a representation of the plant goal-function structure (a model) in order to locate the goals that the operator is trying to reach. Such a model has to describe functional, structural and behavioural aspects of the total man-machine system.
