Abstract

This report provides the results of work carried out in the frame of the shared cost action programme on identification of phenomenology and the role of the Phebus-FP project. The major objective of the research activity was the identification and description of risk dominating severe accident sequences of a BWR plant (Type 72) installed in Germany, including fission product release and transport, and the utilisation of the PHEBUS-FP experimental program. A further objective was the critical evaluation of analytical models which describe the risk dominatiing phenomena and sequences. A critical evaluation of the adequacy of available model and core melt computer codes ATHLET-CD, STCP, MELCOR has been performed. The modelling approach and the parameters employed were assessed. The work led to the identification of important phenomena in BWR accident sequences and to the recommendation of further in-pile and out-of-pile experiments.
