Evaluation of the sizing results of 12 flaws of the full scale vessel installationFunded under: JRC-ADVMAT 2C
This report relates to the evaluation of a sizing exercise. Its terms of reference were characterised by the following major features: flaws had to be realistic ones simulating fabrication and service induced ones; flaws had to be tested in full scale components requiring the adaptation of scanners and transducers, recording for a possible use in real field conditions; techniques to be tested had to be the ones already considered during the PISC II exercise. The final aim of the exercise was the support of codes, standards and industrial practice and their improvement and harmonisation at international level. At the end of the exercise, it was demonstrated that many of the errors were due either to human factors or to scanners limitations and not to the intrinsic features of the ultrasonic methods used.
