Improving structural properties of metal/metal bonding by acoustic emission monitoring and ultrasonic inspection
This work aims to supply some indications to improve the bonding cycle properties of metal/metal joints by correlating in process-acoustic emission (AE) data features with ultrasonic C-scan maps of bonded joints. Mechanical energy coming from interfacial bonding and modified epoxy polymerisation leads to characteristics and different AE graphs, and effective structural coverage of the surface gives different ultrasonic C-scan images at the interface. The two ways of investigating this structure can be correlated so as to discern well produced joints from any other joint presenting any cohesive problem.
