Abstract

The computer package RELIEF has been developed to ease the task of designing emergency pressure relief systems for batch type reactors commonly used in the chemical industry. The main areas of application are: (i) for the safety engineer, who has to ensure the correct functioning of relief systems; (ii) for the design engineer, who has to design new plant and explore the feasibility of different relief strategies; (iii) for consequence analysis, where RELIEF can furnish a realistic time dependent source term for dispersion calculations; (iv) for training and educational purposes.
