A fibre optic sensor for the acquisition of acoustic emission signals
This paper presents research into an innovative fibre optic sensor which can be used instead of acoustic emission piezoelectric transducers. This new sensor presents a constant response in both frequency and amplitude range, so that it is not necessary to submit the acquisition system to frequent calibrations. This transducer, based on a Michelson interferometric scheme, shows a very high sensitivity on a broad band frequency range and is compatible with critical environments (strong electromagnetic fields, high temperature, corrosive agents).
