Abstract

The aim of this project was to collect and evaluate data on technical feasibility, costs and energy intensity of various technologies for CO(2) storage or disposal to be integrated into energy scenario studies on mid term and long term horizons.
The first part of the report summarizes the state-of-the-art of these technologies, including environmental and economic aspects, as results from a literature analysis validated during an expert meeting. Different options for disposal of CO(2) in terrestrial or submarine sites are looked at. The status of technologies for onshore and offshore CO(2) transportation are examined as well. The report emphasis the very different status of knowledge about these various options from the point of view of their CO(2) storage capacity, feasibility, cost and environmental impacts.
Complementary information on the possible evolution of these data over a specified time horizon (2020 and possibly beyond) and on the prospects and timing for commercial availability are provided in the second part of this report, which is based on the results of an expert questionnaire survey. .
