Light Trapping in Spheral Solar (TM) Cells
This paper attempts to construct a theoretical model suited for optimizing complex solar cell structures such as the spherical one, involving many geometrical and physical parameters. It presents the Monte Carlo computer code WINTRACE which is a research tool developed to examine the aspects of light trapping in Silicon Spheral Solar Cells. Light trapping in indirect band gap cells is necessary to increase the photogenerated current reducing the optical losses, thereby increasing their efficiency. This programme gives the possibility of developing a deeper understanding of the light trapping properties of the spherical design by taking into consideration also the multiple reflection process among the spheres, increasing the amount of light optically coupled into the cell.
