The title compound was prepared by reaction of tricyclopentadienylneptunium chloride with potassium phenoxide in tetrahydrofuran (von Ammon, Fischer and Kanellakopulos, 1972). Extraction with eta-pentane followed by crystallization produced single crystals suitable for X-ray analysis. A selected specimen was sealed in a thin walled glass capillary under an inert atmosphere. The structure was solved by direct methods and subsequent difference Fourier maps. Full matrix refinement with anisotropic displacement parameters for all non-H atoms was performed. In the final difference Fourier map there are four substantial peaks with a height in the range 0.86 to 1.12 e angstroms{-3} close to the Np atom (0.94 to 1.18 angstroms).
