Abstract

The PHEBUS PF programme is intended to improve the knowledge of serious accident risks in nuclear reactors. The main objective is to asess the quantity and the nature of fission products released by the fuel in a serious situation and to set up mathematical models to describe these phenomenona. The release products, especially the iodine fission products, are also studied in the primary circuit and in the confining enclosure. The intention is to run these experiments in installations representative of a pressured water reactor. The first test carried out in 1993 was a technological success and provided unexpected results.
