Abstract

This catalogue presents a typology of forest non forest interfaces and fragmentation patterns currently occurring in the forested areas of the humid tropics. It classifies, describes and illustrates the main forest fragmentation types observable within the intertropical belt. These fragmentation types characterize the various forest conditions. The correlation between results obtained from visual stratification of classified remotely sensed imagery, and those obtained from fragmentation indices is investigated. 34 selected sample sites are used as illustrations. Some schematic maps are included to enable the location of the studied sites.
