The construction of the future European high speed rail network has to face up to the infrastructure incompatibility between the different countries of the Union. One of the points needing particular care is the electrical supply of the network.
The first state has been dedicated to identifying the nature of these problems. It became evident that there was a lack of data on the existing rail mateirals and infrastructure. The choice of the type of electrical supply for this network would depend on future technological prospects.
In the second stage, a database is to be organized, along with real simulation of different kinds of electrical supply to anticipate the rail traffic trends till 2015, and to conceive a scenario for the development of the network.
This document also contains four appendices covering the technology of electrical traction, polycurrent trains, the first simulation, and an overview of the high speed rail industries. s.
