  • The future of industry in Europe : Volume 18 - Firms and regions : Contextual factors of industrial development : Synthesis of the FINE regional network : Volume 19 - The Danish industry's contribution to the future of industry in Europe :

This publication contains volumes eighteen, nineteen and twenty of the Future of Industry in Europe series. Volume eighteen gives an overview of the analysis of development clusters of firms under different spatial conditions in representative regions throughout Europe. A short discussion of the hypothesis of new economic growth theory shows the importance of knowledge spillovers and the relevance of human capital formation as endogenous factors of economic growth. Volume nineteen reports on the Danish industry's contribution to the future of industry in Europe. Two aspects of the specific Danish industrial development are presented in this paper: networking supported by a national networking scheme and the dynamics of newly established enterprises. Volume twenty gives an overview of the Ruhrgebeit which relates to German regions most affected by the economic upheaval of the seventies and eighties. The report outlines the dominant patterns and trends of the industrial structures in the Ruhrgebeit. It examines the consequences of European integration in the region and the subsequent shaping of new production systems as a task for infrastructure policy.
