Abstract

Standard solutions of twelve PCDDs and PCDFs have been produced to guarantee proper calibration and traceability of results in the certification of these compounds in matrix materials. The purity of each individual isomer has been evaluated on the initial crystals using several analytical methods. All results and the preparation procedure followed are described. The choice of these congeners was based on the following considerations: (i) key representatives of environmentally occurring PCDD and PCDF contaminents; (ii) need of laboratories for calibration purposes; (iii) toxicological aspects; (iv) requirements of legislative control within the European Union.
