Abstract

The colloquium on research, training and agriculture is the first time European policy-makers and specialists from the public and private sectors have come together to exchange ideas on how scientific research and training can complement the process of agricultural reform in the European Union. At this meeting, views from across the European Union were shared between 250 experts from the European Commission Directorates VI (Agriculture and Rural Development) and XII (Science, Research and Development); the Commission's Task Force on Human Resources, Education and Training; authorities from member states, and the farming, agri-business and research sectors. An important part of these discussions was an exchange of ideas on how agricultural issues can be addressed through the scientific research projects funded under the Commission's Fourth Framework Programme.
