Abstract

The techniques of laser induced fluorescence (LIF) and laser enhanced ionization (LEI) are in most cases used simultaneously in order to gain some insight on several important physical processes occurring in atmospheric pressure atomizers. In addition, several examples will be illustrated in which a fluorescence measurement is capable of providing a parameter pertinent to the ionization process and, vice versa, an ionization measurement is useful to interpret a fluorescence process.
