Abstract

The article presents time resolved measurements and an analysis of the parallel velocity distribution function of the e-beam in a quasioptical gyrotron based on electron cyclotron emission. Since such measurements are performed at full beam parameters, perturbative effects (eg parasitic oscillations in the beam tunnel) are also observed contrary to standard diagnostics using scaled e-beam parameters. Considerations on electron cyclotron emission (ECE) measurements of the e-beam energy spread, which may be caused by parasitic oscillations, are also discussed.
