Abstract

A report has been produced on the insertion loss of ear plugs, measured on new versions of 2 commercially available head and torso simulators. The report covers:

head and torso simulators for hearing protectors;
self insertion loss;
artificial flesh;
insertion loss measurements;
ear plug fitting for a maximum insertion loss;
uncorrected insertion loss results;
corrected insertion loss results;
ear plug fitting for a good approximation of the known sound attenuation and improved corrections for physiological masking.

Conclusions are drawn and annexes provided covering Insertion loss of ear plugs determined by miniature microphones in the ear canals of real ears (MIRE) measurements and compared with real ear attenuation at threshold (REAT) results.
