A survey of radio frequency heating of tokamak plasmas is given. The survey is mainly concerned with the underlying plasma physics. A general introduction to the subject is presented followed by a discussion of the physics common to all radio frequency heating schemes. The 3 main radio frequency heating methods are then discussed beginning with ion cyclotron heating, followed by lower hybrid heating and concluding with electron cyclotron heating.
