Abstract

A reliable, reproducible and efficient means of generating representative condensation. The aerosol generation system within the Simplified Tests On Resuspension Mechanisms (STORM) programme is designed for the production of SnO(2) and CsOH particles as well as for any mixture of them. This system consists of the plasma torch and the MgO-vaporization chamber including a feeding line for oxygen and an inlet for quench gas, followed by a condensation pipe. Studies to optimize the yield and to control the particle size distributions of the plasma torch generated aerosol have been carried out scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis reveal the agglomeration of primary particles with aerodynamic diameter between 50 and 200 nm. The aerodynamic diameters of the agglomerates based on mass size distributions have been measured to be mainly in the range of 0.1-10 um.
