For the fuel fabrication of the TRABANT (TRansmutation And Burning of ActiNides in Triox) irradiation experiment in HFR-Petten a droplet to particle processing combined with standard press-sinter technique was selected and resulted in a dust free fabrication procedure of high density pellets with:
a perfect Pu-distribution (solid solution);
a very slow kinetic of dissolution in boiling nitric acid for the (U, Pu, Np) O(2) fuel type;
no solubility in boiling nitric acid for the (Pu, Ce)O(2) fuel type;
a good Na-compatibility for the (U(0.55)Pu(0.40)Np(0.05))O(2) fuel;
a limited Na-compatibility for the (Pu(0.43), CeO(0.57))O(2-x) fuel.
