Abstract

UFe(10)Si(2) single crystals with ThMn(12)-type structure were studied by X-ray diffraction and magnetization measurements. A uniaxial anisotropy, a saturation magnetization of 19.5 uB f.u.{-1} and a type-1 first order magnetization process, for fields applied along the hard a axis, were observed in agreement with previous powder results. The anisotropy constants K1, K2 and K3 were obtained from the magnetization curves along the hard axis. The analysis of the first order magnetization process, through the simultaneous measurement of the longitudinal components and transverse components of the magnetization, assigned it to a rotation of the total magnetization. The results indicate an important contribution of the uranium sublattice to the magnetism in this compound.
