  • The IDEE project : Case studies and interviews with European company heads and opinion leaders concerning the industrial valorization of research

The IDEE survey reported here concerns the process of the industrial and commercial valorization of research results. It was carried out by specialized consultants in four European Union countries (Germany, France, Italy and Spain). It includes case studies of successful valorization as well as consultations with specialists involved in the valorization process from within (a total of 45 interviewees). The aim of the study is to: analyse the state of this process as seen by specialists whose experience in the field is unchallenged; draw clear conclusions; formulate suggestions for European governments on how to improve valorization services. The IDEE interviews reveal the disparity which exists among the four countries studied in terms of traditions, industrial culture, and the situations in which valorization is undertaken. The ability to assimilate the resulting new technologies, as well as the concept of valorization itself, are also very different in the four countries surveyed. It is thus most impressive that, notwithstanding the above, many important findings common to all countries and situations were made. This is one of the major achievements of the survey.
