Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

The global change activities at the Environment Institute of the European Commission Joint Research Centre are focused on: the role of biogenic and anthropogenic emissions in the formation of tropospheric ozone (an important greenhouse gas) in the Mediterranean area which represents one of the most important sources for this gas and its impact on the sensitive alpine region; the direct (sun radiation scattering) and indirect (modification of albedo by clouds) role of aerosols in the mitigation of the greenhouse effect. The activities are backed by laboratories and in field studies on chemical and photochemical processes.
